Brazilians and soccer
By interviewing Brazilians of different backgrounds and ages and by telling my story, I hope to offer distinct perspectives to the sport and its impact in Brazil's culture, society, economics and politics. My uncle Saulo (left) does not enjoy soccer as much as the average Brazilian and currently lives in France. By interviewing him, I hoped to get an outsider (yet insider) perspective of the sport in Brazil. Waldemir (middle) is a family friend who grew up playing soccer and who is currently a passionate fan of his city's local soccer team. In my project, his childhood playing soccer and soccer's strong presence in his life allow him to represent the average Brazilian well. Finally, Stenio (left) is my little cousin who is extremely passionate about the sport and plays it daily with his friends. By interviewing Stenio, my goal was to show how it is to spend your childhood in the "country of soccer" as a boy. Since they are all highly fluent in Portuguese but not as fluent in English, I decided to interview them in Portuguese and translate the conversations.
